For over 15 years Deb Williams, fondly known as ‘Horsey Deb’, has been sharing her knowledge of Natural Horsemanship using the ‘Parelli’ method with so many local Northland children. Never asking for anything in return. The horse float she has used during this time has come to the end of the road, and is going into retirement. “It’s helped so many children to experience the unique and beautiful years of our horses swimming at the beach…. we have given hundreds of children tail rides across the river and in the ocean. It’s brought so many people together and we have an ever expanding community of friends.” Deb Williams.
Deb needs a replacement horse float to enable her to transport the horses to greener pastures for grazing and to continue to do what she does in the community; engaging children and families in the love of horses, giving children self-confidence and fun through horsey adventures, with humility and kindness.
Heroes for Horses is a fundraising campaign. It’s about a community getting together and simply wanting to ‘give something back’ by raising enough funds for a replacement horse float for one of Northland’s ‘good sorts’ Deb Williams.
What sparked it?
We are a group of parents who have seen the benefits first hand our children have received from spending time with Deb and the horses such as, building self confidence, building relationships between horse and child, and friendships with each other. We need your support to help us give something back to Deb for all the time and effort that she has invested in the children over the years. She can only continue to give these gifts to the children with a new float and that is where we (and you) come in to help, by getting behind us, pledging and becoming a hero for the horses, Deb and the kids.
We need to raise in excess of $4000.00 and have until the 14th April to do so. Pledge me works on an ‘all or nothing’ basis, so we need to reach our target to receive any of the funds.
So how can YOU help? Become a Hero for the Horses and pledge now. https://www.pledgeme.co.nz/projects/1877
"Our horse programs help young people to build resilience, healthy boundaries and learn teamwork and cooperation. It also improves cognitive functioning such as organizing behavior and strategizing to accomplish goals. In our youth program, horse activities are combined with play, ground work, nature adventures and partnership-based horsemanship.
The horse gives feedback to the youth about such things as attitude and energy. The horse is respected as a partner and friend.
This approach covers a wide array of social and emotional learning activities organized around horse experiences.
Cognitive functioning, such as organizing and strategizing to accomplish goals helps to encourage and teach young people to build resilience and have the tools they need to face their problem and issues confidently.
Through this interactive learning process the horses can show us how to mentally, emotionally and physically recognise and process the dynamics of energy so that issues like relationship problems, bullying and low self esteem can become a thing of the past.
Many of us are struggling in this world, to find purpose and meaning in life. We need to see and feel the worlds potential mirrored through the people, animals and life situations that we are experiencing.
Our horse becomes a mirror to our potential, energy and greater self awareness. Our connection sessions give us an understanding of how we fit into the bigger picture ........ allowing us to make friends, thrive and create positive life experiences which in turn allows us to reclaim our purpose and passion for life…." Deb Williams.
