From Design Calculations for the Pelter™ Product

  • Shelters should be placed on ground with a slope of 6 degrees or less, based on wind loading maximums from NZS4203:1992 NZ loading code - typical Northland, Wellington, Far South
  • Shelters should only be affixed to one post in a yard or fenceline situation where stability of the structure is assisted by horizontal strengthening i.e: wire or wooden rails
  • Shelters are to be fixed to multiple - 2 or more - posts if not on a fenceline or yard
  • Shelters should not be placed on hill peaks due to wind funnelling characterists of such

Portable stock shelters
Portable from one fenceline to another – its the only way to go - the shelters can be detached and walked to another post for attachment elsewhere and then affixed back on the same post in the same hole with paddock rotations. The units are attached by way of coach screws (one on each rail) and are easily started with a hammer and then just wound in the rest of the way with either a wheel brace (the most efficient way) or an adjustable spanner.

What are our shade covers made of?
Our Shade Covers are used in the horticultural industry and are a 70% UV resistant Shade cloth. They are long lasting, durable and come in Green or Black Colours.

Fixing
No Permit required. Pelter™ Shelters affix to one fence post. Post size to affix to: 110mm minimum SED (small end diameter) timber post. Post height (out of ground): 1.1metres minimum. Post depth (in ground) 600mm minimum. Good quality posts should be used. Our Pelter™ Shelters should not be affixed to rotting timbers.

Kitset design construction
Our Pelter™ range are designed to be easily assembled by all. A clear and concise set of instructions come with every Pelter™.

Start with a single– Convert to a double Pelter™
You can build your Pelter™ to order. Start with a Single Pelter™ unit and convert at a later date to a Double Unit. Ease of conversion from Single to Double Pelter™ is a breeze as stock numbers increase. Conversions are applicable to Single and Double Pelter™ units only.

What are our shelters made of?
Our product is proudly manufactured from aluminium which is light in weight and will not rust. Aluminium is used in residential and commercial joinery, both windows and doors and has been used for years successfully due to its characteristics of strength, aesthetic qualities and ease of use.

It has been used in the horticultural industry successfully for years and we supply units as standard in natural mill finish extrusion or we can offer the units finished in colours by a process called powder coating. It makes it the perfect metal to utilize in the elements as a stock shelter due to its structural and non-rust qualities.

We chose aluminium over steel as it will NOT rust, attaches comfortably to a fence post and does NOT have to be galvanised, unlike steel whose weight precludes it from use as a shelter. Steel is heavy, would have to be attached to extra fence posts and the added costs in purchasing and ramming posts, additional fastenings, galvanising and the huge weight increase precludes it from use.

Colours and Powder Coating
We offer the units as standard in either natural mill extrusion which is silver in colour or in Powder coated colours. If you want all your Pelter™s to blend with nature and be forest green in colour (known as Brunswick Green) just give us a call. You can choose from a standard range of colours from the pantone chart that colours are derived from. There is an additional waiting time for powder coated units, so don’t hesitate to contact us for information on pricing and availability.

Where can I put my Pelter™?
Pelter™ Shelters can be attached to fence lines of paddocks and also the outside of stock yards. There is no limit on the number of Pelter™s that can be placed in a paddock and dependent upon stock grazed, any number can be used to cover both small or larger herds.

The Paddock Pelter is a larger structure that can be used for sheltering herds of animals and can be supplied in varying heights to accommodate all stock from sheep and bobby calves through to fully grown animals. Give us a call - we're happy to quote your individual requirements.

Pelter™ Shelters are not to be used inside of stock yards due to large numbers of stock herded together at any one time in a yard causing damage to the product and potential injury to stock.

They can be attached and utilized as shade structures for barns and yards (outside of) and are wonderful for standing horses under whilst grooming or standing waiting outside of round yards. They are not to be used for tying up to or attachment to of any living animal. Doing so voids all warranty on the product and could injure your animal should they pull back.

They can be used for Kennel runs and dog exercise areas along with any other animal area used in a similar situation

They can be used in garden area’s for residential shade both for people and valuable plantings and can be supplied at any height

DestructAcons - Livening up your Pelter™ Shelter
Pelter™ Shelters can be livened on electric fence lines to keep stock from interfering with. We offer as an accessory, a connection cable for electrification that easily screws into the back of the Pelter™ Shelter and clips onto your hot wire.

Payment Options
We accept Visa, Mastercard and Bank cards. Everyone can own a Pelter™

Word of Caution
Pelter™ Shelters can only be used on the outside of stock yards and must NOT be fixed internally to yards due to large numbers of stock herded together at any one time causing potential damage to the product and/or injury to stock. We do not accept any damage to the product from livestock or persons.

Our Shelters are designed for the use of shading and the reduction of driving rain.
