Oregon Woman Charged in Horse Shootings (US)

Oregon Woman Charged in Horse Shootings (US)

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

An Oregon woman faces multiple criminal charges in connection with the shooting of two horses in a Deschutes County pasture on July 10.

Deschutes County Sheriff's Deputy Sargeant Bryan Husband said patrolling sheriff's deputies discovered Inga Kremnitz carrying a rifle while running alongside a remote road in Bend. When deputies approached Kremnitz, she told them she was shooting sage rats in a field nearby where she also discovered a horse bleeding from its nose.

Upon investigation, Deschutes County deputies and detectives discovered a Quarter Horse gelding with a gunshot wound to the head and a Quarter Horse mare with gunshot wounds to the chest and hind quarters.

The horses' owners were called to the scene and transported the animals to the Bend Equine Medical Center for treatment. They are expected to recover.

Kremnitz was later charged with three counts of felony aggravated animal abuse, two counts of criminal mischief, and one count of criminal trespass while in possession of a firearm. She remains in the Deschutes County Jail pending hearing.

The investigation into the case remains open, Husband said.
