McVean wins FEI World Cup series for third year on the trot
Mystery Creek rider Katie McVean has made history by winning the FEI World Cup series for the third year on the trot. Hawke’s Bay based rider Lisa Coupe finished on a high, winning the final leg of the series in Tauranga over the weekend, but was placed fourth in the overall standings. McVean and her home-bred mare Dunstan Daffodil – half sister to her World Champs superstar Dunstan Delphi who was sold for an undisclosed multimillion dollar deal to Saudi Arabia last year - were the series winners. They have won the right to represent New Zealand in the world final in Holland in April, but McVean has opted not to go. It has been a tough time for the young showjumper, who has been competing with a lower back fracture.
In other showjumping news, 11 year-old Briar Burnett-Grant is likely to have booked herself a place in world final of the FEI Children’s International Showjumping competition, after four clear rounds on her pony Mighty Maximus in Gisborne recently. Young riders from across the globe jump an identical course, with the best going on to represent their countries at the world final. New Zealand is the first to hold its qualifier and Kiwi riders face an anxious wait while the rest of the world catches up.

Denmarks Platinum Playboy
In the USA, American Saddlebreds are often used for what is called Saddleseat riding. They are ridden and in harness where they are trained in fast, smooth, high stepping trotting action. Many competitions are held and the natural peacock attitude of the ASB makes them spectacular to watch. All ASBs are born with the ability to walk, trot and canter, but many are taught extra gaits. Denny is normal 3 gaited with an extremely athletic and naturally elastic uphill trot and a very good canter.Read More»
