Stonefields Stud

Stonefields Stud has been breeding Welshies for ten years, with the original focus being on Welsh Mountain ponies, however we now have ponies from all sections of the Welsh Stud book. Our foundation mares were purchased for their very old bloodlines, Thorpeville Presence (imp) by Baledon Viking (imp UK) & Crick Fine China (Criban Spark (imp UK) x Criban Fair Frills (imp UK) thus giving us a more direct link to the Welsh Stud book in Wales. We were lucky enough to get only fillies from these two mares. Today their progeny & descendants are breeding on very well for us in the stud.

Our first stallion to stand with us here was Weston Carillion (imp) - (Carnalw Hyderus (imp UK) x Weston Song (imp UK).
He had a wealth of lovely breeding & show winners behind him in his pedigree. He was a great introduction to stallions for us & would run happily with his mares & their foals.
In 2003 we purchased the colt Llanfairbryn the Marquis (imp) - (Cardross Llewellyn x Llanfairbryn Foxtrot) to cross with our Weston Carillion (imp) fillies. He produced four foals for us, with two of his three fillies remaining in the stud today.
Since being gelded (unfortunately through injury) he has proven to be a fantastic ambassador for the
Welsh breed, winning many classes on the flat & over fences in just a short time under saddle.
2006 foaling season saw the arrival of two exceptional colts - Stonefields Prince of Wales (AI/UK) - (Gwynfaes Culhwch (UK) x Stonefields Promise) a typey Welsh Section C & Stonefields Xcellence - (Langtree Evening Espresso (imp) x Kirreway Xcel (imp) a beautiful Riding Pony, both of which we have kept entire for future use in the stud.
Llanfairbryn Best Man (imp) - (Cardross Llewellyn x Llanfairbryn Ffansi Pants) was leased in 2007 from Verona Lodge stud in the North Island, as he is by the same stallion as our Llanfairbryn the Marquis (imp) & is out of my favourite mare at Llanfairbryn. We have since purchased him & we are very pleased with his progeny that we have bred, shown & handled to date.
We have also been able to use the resident & visiting stallions at Verona Lodge stud in the past, Llanfairbryn Alpine Fox (imp) - (Llanfairbryn Desert Fox x Llanfairbryn Geraldine) on our homebred mares & Loch-Sloy Challenger (imp) - (Twyford Santa (imp UK) x Loch-Sloy Chloe) with great results.
For the past five seasons we have also been lucky enough to utilise some of the worlds best genetics by using AI. Gwynfaes Culhwch (Wales), Rivington Heritage (Aus) both Welsh Cobs & Pendley Gold Cup (imp UK), Willowcroft Regal Emblem (Aus) both Riding Ponies, have been used on our mares with great results so far. 2010 has seen our first AI fillies born, giving us valuable show & breeding mares for the future.
